We had a wonderful celebration for Kyle's first birthday. We had a party at the Chattanooga Zoo on June 22nd. Many friends came out to celebrate with us. As you can tell from the pictures, Kyle had a blast eating cake for the first time. Heidi kept sneaking frosting from his cake. in lieu of gifts for Kyle, we asked friends to bring donations for the Ronald McDonald House of Chattanooga. We collected $270 and 29 items from their wish list. Kyle still had gifts from us and his grandparents to open at his party. Although it was mainly Heidi, and her friend Avery who opened them up.
It's hard to believe our baby is one! Our little miracle baby is doing so well! Our medical providers agree that it is a huge blessing and miracle that he is developing on target. Kyle walks around holding our hands or furniture, crawls all over the place, claps his hands, dances to music, feeds himself finger foods, and he says several words: Mama, Dada, Kitty, Ball, hi, and since his birthday--balloon--pronounced BA-LU. He absolutely loves balloons!!
Kyle turned one on June 25th. To celebrate his birth, we went back to Parkridge East Hospital, and visited the staff in the NICU. We took them cupcakes, pictures of Kyle at birth along with current pictures, and a written update of how he is doing. We got to see 3 nurses who took care of him while he was there. We also visited the midwife who delivered him--the woman I consider who saved his life. We have kept in touch with her and visited her several times since his birth. The night of Kyle's birthday, our family went to Dairy Queen and Kyle had his first ice cream cone.
